That’s a tough one, isn’t it?
You might have to do something for soneone else, or have a difficult conversation, or take the bins out and it’s pouring down with rain and not letting up.
Or do your tax return, finish that project, write that essay.
Or speak to your partner about something that’s bugging you, or end the relationship, or
It doesn’t matter what, if you don’t have the heart it’s always more difficult to do the thing.
So how can you find the connection to your heart and get your motivation working for you?
Well, I find that if you stop stalling, stop procrastinating and take action, almost any action, to do the thing you don’t want to, and then take another tiny bit of action, then another and another, you will either have completed the task or have started to get swept up with it.
Now, sometimes your first action(s) are actually research or preparatory actions. You’ve been avoiding doing the task because you just don’t know how to do it perhaps. This is a clue! If you don’t know how to do it, what do you need to find out? THAT is your first action! Once you have gathered more information, you can make a considered decision as to what your next action is – much easier than trying to plunge into doing something you’re not actually ready to do.
So, when you find that you’re not motivated to do what you need to do, take a pause. Ask yourself WHY you’re not getting on with “it.” Ask yourself WHAT needs to happen to give you the motivation or confidence to at least make a start om the task. Finally, get clear on HOW you’re going to do the first (or next) two or three steps and then take action.
You’ll find the connection with your heart, your motivation will soar and the task will get done.
